Reflexology for Menopause & Peri Menopause
Peri menopause can happen at any age but is mostly seen in women between the
ages of 40-44. Peri menopause differs to menopause. If you are still having periods, you must assume you are still ovulating. Menopause is a date in the calendar a year to the day after your last period.
Peri menopause is the time leading up to that when changes occur in the hormone
levels; mainly oestrogen and progesterone which are both produced by the ovaries.
The list of possible symptoms are lengthy and can vary from person to person.
Some of the more common symptoms are :
- Night Sweats
- Hot Flushes
- Insomnia
- Brain Fog
- Fatigue
- Mood Swings
- Dry Skin/Hair/Nails
- Itching (urticaria)
- Vaginal dryness/ itching/ pain during intercourse
- Reduced libido
- Headaches
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Joint Pains
- Weight Gain
- Heart Palpitations
During a peri/ menopausal reflexology session I focus on the reproductive, endocrine
and parasympathetic nervous systems. These systems are responsible for hormones and relaxation.
Reflexology helps by soothing and relaxing you, by rebalancing hormones and
treating symptoms. It is a lovely nurturing treatment at times of stress.
To gain maximum benefit, a course of treatments on a weekly basis for 6-8 weeks is
recommended.
